It’s been a busy year for The Body Shop! Following in the footsteps of ethical beauty brand Lush, they launched their Forever Against Animal Testing campaign in June 2017 – a poignant backlash at critics who have boycotted the L’oreal-owned brand for over a decade. The campaign launch coincided with their €1bn sale to Natura, who also own the Aesop brand, releasing them from the shadow of a cosmetic company that still sell their products in China.
Natura, Brazil’s biggest cosmetic company, have enjoyed an ethically-sound growth since its founder, Antônio Luiz Seabra, started the company in São Paulo in 1969, and who still plays a major part in the company’s operation.
With over 200 products now certified as 100% vegan, and many more to follow, it’s a promising future for The Body Shop and its vegan fans. From Vitamin E eye cream to aloe calming toner, nude foundation to brightening serum, it looks like more of a ‘capsule’ collection than a dedicated range, and there seems to be every staple product that you’ll need. Our current favourite? Has to be the brow liner kit with their 100% vegan and cruelty-free make-up brush range.
A word of warning, though – the staff we’ve met so far haven’t been trained fully on what is and isn’t vegan, and a product sheet they referred to proved incorrect. Please check before purchasing, and don’t be afraid to ask twice! Or you’ll end up with a concealer filled with beeswax like us…
